V: Competition - Field Pistol
A. General
1. Categories: Competition will be in two categories:
Production (P) for handguns equipped with stock open sights,
and Production Any Sight (PAS) for handguns equipped with
stock open sights, scopes, or other optical devices. The
letters in parentheses are the official abbreviations for
each category.
If a competitor chooses to use an open sighted handgun in the
Production Any Sight category and use the same handgun in the Production category, the
Production entry must be fired first.
2. Classification: Each category will be divided into classes as
follows:

B. Targets:
1. Targets shall be 1/2 scale of "full size" silhouettes, per official IHMSA
templates for Field Pistol competition.
2. Distances for targets shall be:
a) chickens - 25 meters (or yards)
b) pigs - 50 meters (or yards)
c) turkeys - 75 meters (or yards)
d) ram - 100 meters (or yards)
All targets must be set by the same unit of measure (meters or
yards). The unit of measure used shall be posted t the match and stated in all match
announcements. A two meter/yard, plus or minus, variation in actual distance from the
firing point to each bank of targets is allowed.
3. Targets are to be made from 3/8" tempered steel (1/2"
steel acceptable), or nearest metric equivalent.
4. The "feet" upon which the silhouettes rest should be
made from the same type and thickness of steel as the targets. All feet are to be 2"
wide and 4" long, or nearest metric equivalent.
5. Automated target systems are permitted (See Section III-B-8)
C. Handguns:
1. Production revolvers and pistols as defined by IHMSA rules. Weight not to exceed 4
pounds in the Open Sight category and 4-1/2 pounds in the Production Any Sight category.
Barrel length not to exceed 10-3/4".
2. Per existing IHMSA rules, Production guns can be drilled and
tapped for scopes and still be used in the Production category and/or Big Bore so long as
holes are filled with filler screws.
3. Open sights may be removed to install a scope mount.
4. Hammer extensions are allowed on scoped pistols only.
5. Revolvers and pistols of other action types will compete together
on an equal basis.
D. Optical Equipment:
Scopes, mounts and other optical devices must be as manufactured with no
modifications. Scopes and optical devices must be removed from handguns which are used in
the Production category. It is permissible to leave scope mounts on such handguns,
provided they are not used a as shooting aid.
E. Cartridges:
Straight-wall, centerfire pistol cartridges of standard manufacture will be allowed
with maximum case length of 1.29 inches, as specified for that cartridge. Also allowed,
the .32-20, length of 1.32 inches, .22 Hornet and .270 REN. Rimfire ammunition (.22LR and
.22WMR) is allowed and must be fired as manufactured.
F. Position:
All Field Pistol competition will conducted in the Standing position, as defined by
IHMSA rules (see Section VII-B). |
